In the film, scientists are hunting for a mysterious pathogen when the panic, resulting in a disastrous event. As the scene shifts to San Diego, the island undergoes a sudden transformation into a scene from a Greek mythological tale. The island is now covered in carnivorous dinosaurs. On the island, Dr. Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum) meets a woman, played by Katee Sackhoff, who shares the story of her childhood and experiences with dinosaurs.
You should be aware that the film was originally titled Jurassic Park II: Lost World, and was eventually changed to III by director Steven Spielberg, although screenwriter Jim Martin would later write Jurassic Park IV: The Quest for Poison, which was released in 2020. The sequels were released as Jurassic Park IV: The Final Chapter and Jurassic Park: The Lost World. As of the writing of this article, the third installment is still being planned and written.
In the film, Hammond shows the audience a scene of an erupting volcano, which then quickly devolves into an exploding raptor attack. In the film, the volcano erupts in front of the park’s visitors, but in real life it erupted underwater. You can see the eruption online. The film has a faster pace than in the book, which was released in 1997.
In the film, it is revealed that during the initial outbreak, the initial attack was triggered by something made from the DNA of a T. rex (which was not in the book). In the book, however, the raptors never attack humans, as is shown in the film. In the book, when the guests witness the T. rex attack, the director of the park sends in the Dinosaucers to search for the attack site.
As with the book, the film also explains that the raptors may be more aggressive than originally thought. At one point, Dr. Alan Grant (Martin) says, “All these things we’ve been taught are good dinosaurs… they’re not.” Later, when the guests see the dinosaurs eating the guests, and the giant one, Indominus Rex, approaching, they consider whether or not they should help the raptors and destroy the tourists.
This is what the book and film have in common: dinosaurs in a world that may have changed drastically. Hopefully, after reading this review, you can see how the sequel may differ from the first film and decide for yourself if this film is worth your time.
